Quick questions on the Traxide USI 160 dual battery thingo

I've got one of those dual battery things,

-Can I earth the auxiliary battery by hooking it on the negative post of the main cranking battery? Or do I have to find it's own earth point...

-Do I have to do anything special when I'm jump starting another vehicle?

This covers how to put it into jumpstart mode for your own car, but what to do when you are the donor?

Hi Defender and if your defender is a pre 2012 then you can simply connect negative terminal on the auxiliary battery to the negative terminal on the cranking battery.

If it is a newer defender, you will need to run the negative from the auxiliary battery to a good earth.

It’s easy to work out whether you need to earth elsewhere on you can earth to the cranking battery negative.

Earlier Defenders have a standard battery clamp on the negative terminal, while newer Defenders have a taped nut which does not allow for anything to be connected to the neg terminal.

NOTE, you can use the positive terminal on ant Land Rover as your connection to the isolator.

When your vehicle is to be the donor vehicle in a jump start, you do not need to change the setting of the In-Cab module.

Just connect up the jumper leads as you would for any donor to disabled vehicle.

I just did one of these a few weeks ago and bought 1m of 3 B&S cable, crimped on the lugs and ran if from the aux battery neg to the earth point (8mm bolt) on the chassis which then goes onto the gearbox.

This is the same point that the main battery earths to. I ran the cable through the same grommet in the battery box that the main battery earth runs through.
