    Oricom UHF058

Anyone have one? Used one? Thoughts?

    Currently 55% off at Repco

    NZD$129

Is it a good deal or am I better off spending more money?

    Cheers,

    BadCo.

jump on the oricom website and download the manual see if y8u can turn the blessed roger beep off that oricom put there by default, its not so bad for the recieve radio but totally unnecessary for the transmit radio to Roger beep when y8u dekey, personally save and buy a uniden or GME remote mount model.

Others may disagree, just my 2 cents.

I don't know if I would use it enough to spend over 300 bucks on a radio though.

If I did go for this radio, any recommendations on aerials? This seems alright

Yes that would be adequate, better than the one supplied, IMHO dont skinp on the antenna as the antenna is the moost important part, a $300 antenna will make a $100 radio work better than the oposite, if you get what I mean.

Ok looking more in depth about antenna's and mounting locations now. It will of course be used in 4wd convoys.

Anyone have any suggestions for what size, style or specific model for an antenna?

Any suggestions for mounting? I was just going to bull bar mount it but I see there are gutter mounts and other mounts I could potentially rivet somewhere. Also why can't a lot of GME antenna be bull bar mounted?

    G'day Badco,

I asked SCA why they were on sale so cheap, was told it's to clear stock for the next model.

So there may be something better coming?

Is this for the radio or an Antenna? The radio is from Repco, and I figured for the price and the fact its not listed on the Oricom website then it must be on clearance. There may be something better coming but definitely not for $129!

Dunno about Wellington, I'm in West Auckland and it is typical four seasons in one day around here.

This one looks nice and big and high powered

    Land - 477 MHz | GME

Coupled with a bull bar mount that should be the go, what do you all think?

Your antenna choice is fundamentally based on how your going to use the radio, you mentioned "in convoy" (which is all uhf cb is really good for) if that's the case all you need is a 4.5db elevated feed antenne mounted on a bracket on the passenger side quard, very simple and it will give you the comms you need easitly out to 10km even more on the open road, of course there are a lot of factors that will prevent this in fact too many to list.

Now here is My humble Opinion,

The Citizens Band Uhf (chicken band as we call it) cb is a waste of spectrum assignment and I would no more rely on it to save my life than I would a blind guide dog, all one has to do is turn it on in any capital city on channels one through eight and you will understand, itsfull of morons playing music and swearing at each other, the only use I can see for it isoutside these areas for as you say convey use, listening too road channel albeit colorful at times and channel 10 when crossing the desert, remote area car to car comms ect but that's it, I'm not saying dont buy one far from it, I'm saying just get an adequate setup without spending big bucks

Your oricom uhf035 and a guard mounted or bull bar mounted 4.5db elevated feed antennna will be perfect for what you need it for.
