Replacing head unit in Disco 3 - Help Please

    Hi,

I have a 2006 Disco 3 (S Model). It has the basic land rover stereo in it. This needs replacing as buttons broke and not good with CD's.

I've bought a new Sony DDIN to go and but needed some advice re swapping them over.

I tried to take it to a local car electrical place today and they refused to do it stating it could mess up the onboard computer etc if they hard wired it in.
On the other hand, a non local land rover dealer told me it is possible without any issues. Just need the right connections etc.

Has anyone here managed to swap theirs? I have looked on Google and the UK is awash with a wiring harness/adapter that converts the landy connections into a normal ISO one. As far as I can tell I can then just get the Sony adapter cable and connect the two.

Any help or advice much appreciated. The Adapter is ref CT20LR02.

    Many thanks

Yes it is possible to do it, you might want to post in the D3/D4/RRS section for more info.
The one thing you will lose is the clock display in the dash as that relies on the Land Rover head unit for some reason. But that is the only issue I had with my 2008 D3
    Cheers

    Hi Tim,
Yes, I swapped the std base (CD400) stereo in my previous D3 with a Sony double din unit. Here is the list of what you need:
    1) Facia
    2) Harness Adaptor
    3) Fakra to DIN Antenna adaptor
    4) Steering wheel control adapter - you also need to add the steering wheel stereo control buttons!

It is pretty easy to get this together nowadays - as they're all available from Aerpro:
Landrover Discovery 3 2005-2009 | Aerpro Vehicle Specific

Let me know if you need any further information.
    Cheers,
    Rob
