    Which type of reversing camera?

There is almost nil visibility out the back of the 110, plus a reversing camera could also be useful for hooking up the camper trailer, so its on my wish list. I did a search but didn't find a comparison thread. I'm unclear about the merits and costs of the various types of reversing cameras:

    1. Cheapie stuck on the dash
    2. Unit connected to in-dash screen (not possible on my Defender, I think)
    3. Unit connected to a screen on back of sun visor
    4. Unit connected to a replacement rearview mirror

Are there any other types I missed?

During our shopping I looked at a Defender with type 1 and was unimpressed with it because it looked tacky, blocked forward vision and had to be switched on each time it was to be used.

My BIL spent about $700 for a type 3 in the sun visor, but says he keeps forgetting to flip down the visor and view it when backing.

Type 4 seems the best to me, since it would work every time the vehicle was put in reverse and be instantly viewable. However, I understand these can be pretty expensive.

So people, what do you recommend? What's a fair price? Are some better than others? Would love to hear of your experiences...

I have a $50 wireless one from ebay with a 4 inch screen.

I fixed the screen in my D2 above the rear view mirror.

Works well and great for reverse parking and hitching the camper trailer .

It can get interference from other reversing cameras. It has happened to me only once but had a caravan next to me and my screen showed his camera and sometimes can be affected by strong RF interference, but not very often.
There are vendors on ebay where you can mix and match , and I didn't choose a rear view mirror one as I was unsure whether it would easily fit the D2.
For the number of times I use it, it is fine.

I fitted one in the space where the sunroof controls would be on a D2 looks very neat.

I installed a NESA unit that replaces the rear vision mirror in the 130. It isn't the cheapest but really good quality stuff. Bit of mucking around to wire it but worth while. A lot of people say they are no good in bright light, mine is great but I suspect that is due to it being under the shade of the tray.
With the tow ball in it is pretty easy to reverse onto the trailer once you get over the fisheye effects.

$25 for a 5inch monitor with 800x480 resolution works well and is small enough to find a spot on the dash, centre console, or mount from an air vent. Then about same again for a camera. I prefer a wired camera as no loss of signal or picture quality and easy enough to run video cable. Add a second camera and a toggle switch and you can have a forward facing camera for squeezing into tight spots as most monitors can auto switch between two video inputs.

I fitted the rear vision type to the 110. Great 7" rear vision mirror, provision for three cameras rear, front ,side, or rear and 2 sides also a video input. Pic shows effect of bright sunlight with half being in shade altho not as bad as shown in pic .The distance lines are adjustable and the pic quality would be better if the camera had a wash once in a while

    Any chance of a pic.

Sorry mick if this is hijacking your thread as yours is a Defender question, but apart from sending a PM I don't know how else to do it.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

To the OP, keep in mind what it is you want.

Some stand alone GPS have camera inputs, but get "stuck" somewhere.

Or an integrated solution and have Nav, Camera and entertainment.

Have a think before jumping in as to what type of solution suits you.
