    Defender 130 owners - rear speakers?

    Defender 130 owners -

    Have any of you built speaker enclosures in the rear of the vehicle to provide some rear fill?

    If so I would LOVE some pics / info / plans / etc.
    It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    some crappy phone pics of my speakers in the 130 for you. I made a shelf in the back with a tilted face of about 45 degrees so I could squeeze in some 6X9" JBLs, left a space in the middle for stuff like maps, hats and light things. Bottom of the shelf is level with top of the rear doors. Whole thing is covered in some foam backed stuff that I used to replace the head lining when it started to come off. For the front I used 6" splits in the doors and the tweeters in the dash. The splits make a bit of difference as it seems to "lift" the sound at the front, well worth the effort. The whole lot is driven by an amp behind the back seat. Cost around $350 in total I think. Combined with lots of sound proofing its pretty good for a noisy defender.

    Hi Vlad, I just used a piece of 12mm form ply behind the rear seat.
    Cut some speaker holes out for 6x9 and mounted it directly to the rear bulkhead reinforcement struts.
    About to cover it in carpet to finish off. The board also has my power sockets flush mounted which are behind the LH seat.

    Thanks fellas.

    Nick that looks very tidy but would kill any head room for rear pax and I do need to carry people there now and then.

    Trying to keep the costs down I was hoping that I could use a pair of 4" speakers I already have for rear fill. I know this would require a sub in order to get any bass, and that costs money but I've been told that would be much better quality (and less distortion with increased volume) than trying to get bass out of even 6x9's ?

    Thoughts?

    Hi Vlad, yes headroom is limited with my setup. A sub behind the back seat would be good but I find the 6X9s driven through an amp are fine for me. If you went with a sub you cold still do a shelf type setup for your 4" speakers but higher up for more headroom

    Hi vlad,

    I'm my 130 I was also aware of not restricting head room. In the end I just mounted the 6" speakers into the head lining on each side, about, just above the centre of rear door windows. There is enough of a cavity to fit the speaker and it is nice and neat.
