Just realised that even without credit, you can still dial 000 on the Inmarsat network with my phone, which is very handy.

Anyone able to recommend a supplier? It's a bit annoying that all the suppliers I can find will only give a 365 expiry on large amounts. It would be handy to have maybe $50 worth of calls, that last for a year.

Isn't it normal to be able to dial 000 on any phone without credit? Some regulation requires it?

I think you are correct, as I have an old Garmin-Asus A50 GPS phone, that I have replaced with an S5, but use the A50 in the old Series 1 as a stand alone GPS (mainly for the KPH speed readout). Works a treat & tells me can be used to call emergency numbers only as no sim card found.
I think it's actually an international thing, as phones I've had in other countries also have it.

Hey Ranga,
Yes, it's painful now that Inmarsat don't do the low cost 2 year expiry anymore.
Last trip we needed the sat, we got some air time vouchers from here - Pre paid airtime -- Isat Phone Pro -- Top up or new sim card-- - ClientSAT
When you pay you get a voucher with a code that is valid for 12months. So if you really need to use the phone, you put in the code and then can make a phone call/sms. Once you put in the code, you can only make calls for the 30 day block (or number of days for the particular voucher), so you have to get another voucher for the next trip if it's not within that time period.
The other catch is air time vouchers are locked to the sim cards of the same supplier for some reason? So you'd need one of Rob's sim cards, but they are generally free or low cost, as they make their money through vouchers.
There are also international suppliers which are cheaper. For example here - https://www.expeditionstechnik.de/pr...einheiten.html
You would also need one of their sim cards - https://www.expeditionstechnik.de/pr...isatphone.html
In all honesty, my main intention was to use it in emergency situations. Now I realise I don't even need credit for this, I'm pretty happy. Mind you, I'd happily buy a small amount of credit if it had a longer expiry.
