    Phillips CED781 to Disco 2a

Hi I have a 2004 Disco 2a and I have replaced the original headunit with a Phillips CED781 multi function unit. I have been able to easily connect all but the steering wheel controls.
The Phillips unit has a self learn facility to match it to the SWC but the wiring instructions are not all that clear?
    Can anyone here help?

    The Unit has:

OE SWC IR REMOTE IN (Brown wire) - OE SWC remote in
OE SWC IR REMOTE IN (Black wire) - Ground
OE SWC AD LEARN (White wire) - OE SWC AD Learn Line 1
OE SWC AD LEARN (White wire) - OE SWC AD Learn Line 2
OE SWC AD LEARN (Black wire) - Ground

But the Land Rover only has only two pins marked SWC.

One is marked Steering wheel remote input and the other Steering wheel remote output.

Pins 2 and 3 on the C0098 plug.

I have tried hooking them to the self learn wires and earthing the earth wire but nothing happened.

    Any ideas???

That's a nice looking stereo and once you get it working it will be worth sharing the details in a "how to"

Yes the Phillips manual is a bit scant on detail regarding the setup. My first suggestion would be to make contact with Philips and get their advice. From memory the D2 system uses resistances to communicate what button is pushed. Look for the plug ID in the circuit schematics and there will be a bank of resistors there.

Other thoughts... When connected to the learning wires did you go to the learning setup screen and match the function with a button push. Another thought is that the learning wires are only connected during the learning phase and then the stereo wires are hooked up.

    Cheers

Well it is all in and working.

I have IGO Primo Navigation as well as OZIexplorer works great. I solved the problem with the steering wheel controls just had to connect as such:

Pin 2 to OE SWC AD LEARN (Black wire) - Ground
Pin 3 to OE SWC AD LEARN (White wire) - OE SWC AD Learn Line 1

OE SWC AD LEARN (White wire) - OE SWC AD Learn Line 2 - not used
OE SWC IR REMOTE IN (Brown wire) - OE SWC remote in - not used
OE SWC IR REMOTE IN (Black wire) - Ground - not used

The only little problem is that the unit does not have a station search option on the steering wheel controls. So I have Vol up and down on the correct buttons and I assigned the Band and Source to what was channel search originally. Works for me.

The unit is very smick with smooth action and a good quality screen which I can see in bright sunlight.

Bluetooth work for my Google phone and it plays CDs and DVDs as well as being Ipod compatible. So it is all there in one unit.

The only little niggle is that if you are using the nav system without the engine running and you then start the engine it reboots the system. I have overcome this by fitting an override radio switch.

    All in All very happy.

Just added some photos. Not the best but all I can do with my phone.

The install was easy it comes with ISO plugs that fitted straight into the LR sockets. The only tricky bit was the SW controls.

I emailed this company for advice and Jon was very helpful and solved my problems with the SWC.

Well done. How does the AM compare with other radios? I have a high end media system but with hopeless AM.

I see the media system is about $600, and any indication of total cost with maps etc that you are happy to share?

AM seems to be much the same as original system. I already had Oziexplorer and maps. I purchased Igo Primo from Ebay for under 420.00

It used WinCE so there are lots of options. Do a search for digital maps.

    Oziexplorer CE is $40

250k maps about $50 Hema Maps I think about $250
