Thread: Supported audio formats

Hey Peter, I ripped a whole stack of CDs to a USB which I was able to play on the MY10 HK system and now on the MY16 Meridian system. I can't remember what I used to do the job but it was on W7. I'll need to check what format I used but I'm pretty sure it was lossless - wanted the best possible quality.

PS I thought the MY13 was the 1st to get the Meridian system.

I too have had this problem.I put a stack of music on a USB,much of it wasn't visable or playable in my MY14 with the upgraded Meridian system.
It was all copied via Windows on a Vista system.
I have copies of the USB which I use in the boat and my grader.They too have issues,not playing all albums.They have issues with different albums.Some were ripped from CD,others purchased online and downloaded(not ITunes)
I have noticed the USB in the D4 now plays and sees all so perhaps there was a patch put in whilst it was getting serviced???

Hi Sean, thanks, my car was at the change over point, delivered Dec 13 so HK system. Same as you I am looking for the best quality and I don't understand why it won't play WAV files, I have tried 3 different ripping programs, all on W10. I did not really think that would be the problem but you look at all sorts and I will look into updates with the dealer, thanks Andrew.

What bit rate are the WAV files? I have never used Windows Media Player to rip a CD so don't know what options it has (using Android tablet to type this so can't check). One would assume that CD audio being 44.1kHz 16 bit then it should be that when the WAV is produced. It would also be advantageous to know what 'Wav's' the HKsystem will play.

The onboard system will not play any losess formats including wav and flac files on any android or usb direct connection unless you have purchased the optional Landrover Apps system that adds a second usb port in the glovebox. You then use an app on your phone to make it work. Best option i have found to date is either CD quality or to rip your CDs to mp3 @ 320kbs and then load them on a usb or mp3 player.

Back on the Windows 7 computer now and checked WMP and while it says WAV (lossless) there are no other selectable settings.

I have for over 10 years used CDex to rip CD's - free download program. This allows you to select the WAV encoder and then select a sample rate (of which 44.1kHz (and 16 bit) is an option) This is the same as CD audio.

Yes I see apom, thanks, I was reading a different version owners manual which stated WAV was supported, having pulled mine from the car I now see it only supports MP3, WMA and AAC.
I have tried WMA(lossless) but as per your comment it does not play them, so I might explore some other options. Even with MP3 at 320kbs you get a fairly big change in the file and while I was wanting to play the ripped CD's in the car it was also about a backup for the music collection, which I want in original quality.

Narangga, bit rate for WAV files is channels * bits per sample * sample freq so in this case 2*16*44100 = 1.4 Mbs which is why you end up with 600MB+ files, but memory is cheap these days.

Does you have factory sat nav????
If so,the later ones can store CDs on the Nav hard drive,worth looking into.There is a video on you tube how to store Cds onto land rover stereo.
