    D2 high line radio setup

    Getting my D2 going, and something I can't figure out is, it has one of those highline 1.5DIN(probably Eurovox brand) radios.
    FM reception is fine, but AM radio frequency steps are 10kHz .. so it goes from 760->770->780 .. but I want 774 for clearer reception.
    770 kind'a works, but is very fuzzy.

    Is there any info out there on how to configure the frequency steps by 9kHz like my aftermarket radios allow?

    If not, it's kind'a stupid really for an Aus delivered vehicle .. and I guess I'll have to fit an aftermarket radio head.

    I Think you will find it is just a single DIN with a larger fascia and can be replaced by a single DIN of any type.

    I had a Eurovox 5880 with Single CD and linked roof mounted DVD.

    I just had a look at the manual and it should be 9khz for AM so maybe someone has bought a second hand one from another market with 10Khz spacing.
    I also had a look at the actual radio stored in the garage and there is no Khz switch on the outside of the unit.

    I have replaced mine with a Pioneer 2250? which has Bluetooth etc, USB, SD , CD, mp3 etc

    You can get a reconditioned unit from Eurovox Melbourne for $215 exchange if you are worried about originality.
    If I had my time over I would get one without the CD which is now old tech.
    Edit- hey I just remembered that Eurovox was only fitted in Australia as it is an Australian brand, so there is probably something wrong with it, or someone has attempted a repair previously and mucked it up. There is probably a KHz switch inside somewhere. I used to know the MD way back in the past as I specified them for BMWs in the early 80s.

    It's definitely 1.5DIN, and looks 99.999% original. Maybe it's out of something else, but the rest of the car is original that I doubt it.
    It does have the Landrover logo on it too.
    As for whether it's actually a full 1.5DIN head unit size or just the fascia is 1.5DIN doesn't concern me really,
    I have a finishing strip out of the spare, that I'll probably end up using if I install a modern aftermarket head unit.

    I wish it were 9kHz frequency steps, but using the seek buttons, it only changes every 10kHz.

    Going by the info in RAVE, it seems to be the R990(or ICE0207) version of the radio .. it has the i button first the left on the bottom row of buttons.
    According to the same section of RAVE tho, the tuning steps are supposedly 1kHz ..which would be great, if only I could get mine to do so too.
    No problem with the 0.1Mhz rate on FM tho.

    ps. The Eurovox guess on my part was only just that .. a potential guess. No idea who makes the radio, as it only has Landrover insignia on it.

    ATM it's not so important(yet).
    Need tyres, then a vic roads permit, and down to the RWC place, where it hopefully comes out with it's green approval slip
    I was just tootling around with the vent control unit, as all the lights were out, and went to turn on the radio and tune some stations in .. and noticed the AM issue.
    Heater control panel now lit up, but not yet in fully as I expect that the radio may be the next item on the list of annoyances to remedy.

    Just to make you feel good? I have yet to find a radio that will deliver good AM when installed in a LR. Maybe just my cars, but both are bloody woeful, which is a great shame. And yes I have replaced the original equipment in both with very little improvement.

    Weird!

    No issues in my D1.
    I changed a half damaged, ugly lurid silver and blue Pioneer head unit, for a(more discreet) Pioneer head unit.
    Got a digital radio type too tho.
    Digital worked well for a bit, but I must have done something that caused the digital antenna to be cut to shreds .. so digital reception got borked.
    Got a replacement external digital antenna and all's fine again now.
    No problem on either AM or FM analogue reception either.

    Weird. My D2 has very good AM reception. Standard LR radio with pointless CD changer under the seat. Can't remember having the issue with 10 kHz stepping. Tuning to 774 or 1116 or 621 was never an issue.

    The unit is single DIN, the fascia tells lies. I've been trying to find a single DIN, fold out screen unit with Apple Car Play for a while. Not interested in Android ones. Double DIN, no probs.

    Another thing, there ain't a whole lot of room in there ( I had mine out to fit an FM modulator for my iPod Classic, shows how long ago it was ) and had a fair bit of fun getting it back in, so be aware of that if you decide to change head units.

    Find an old school radio guy. I'll bet that there is a simple answer. LR did some silly things, but supplying radios unfit for market seems unlikely, even for them. The Disco was pretty upmarket in those days.
