    hmm interesting replies!

I didnt realise the FM transmitters havent lived up to expectations for alot of you guys. Admittidly mine also cops interfearance and I feel doesnt broadcast the songs at a high enough quality.

I'd love to find out about hardwiring them into the radios though, not that I'd suggest that to a customer (especially when he comes back and tells me he blew up a $1500 D3 stereo) but it'd be good to know how to do it, and that it can be done

I know for example there are guys out there that know how to do mods like that, for example I have been looking with interest at a mod that can be done to a mazda3 (my girlfriends car) to make the factory stereo play ipods. All it is, is a card that someone has made that plugs into the stereos expansion slot and then you run the cable to the ipod.

I guess all you need is the time, knowledge and wiliness to experiment !

Ipod Interface for 00-03 Disco2 freelander

Any body chasing an Ipod interface that plugs into the back of Discovery11 2000 to 2003 and some 2004 models stereo head units. I have one for sale. Cost $135 but my mistake your gain, $100 posted.
If you have the head unit with tape deck and has at the rear plugs that look like the bottom connector for Grundig here then this unit will fit. It charges the Ipod as well.
    I purchased it from here

    PM me.

Just a word of caution: Both iPod Touch and iPhone - Gen II have a different charging pin in the connector to previous iPods.

I changed the radio in my Discovery1 to a JVC CD unit which has an auxiliary input in the front. Plug a cable directly to the headphone jack. Works great.

Not the latest gear I know but do some hunting around on Google.

I found this site when looking for a way of hooking up the iPod in the defender to a pioneer CD unit, the CD player is now 9 years old so there would have to be a better way for newer stuff

    gutterslide.com

The only trick then was to find the menu item to turn on the aux select.

I have now had 3 Alpine iPod comaptible head units - and they've all been brilliant, just plug n play. I've just had to get an iPhone adaptor for my CDA9884E to resolve the iPhone charging issue but it will work without it.
    Awesome!

Yes and further to this, generic 12v-USB chargers won't work with the USB charging cable. Massive pain in the bum if you have a few lying around from a phone etc. Relatively easy to fix if you don't mind hacking the charger or making up your own cable, which is what I've done so I can charge my iPhone and iPod Touch in the car at the same time from one outlet.

I just purchased this kit to hardwire the iPod in to the Blaupunkt stereo in my VZ Holden Crewman. The iPod is hidden and the factory stereo controls the music selection
iPod interface: Holden VY/VZ GTO stereo/radio/CD player - eBay Other Car Audio, Video, Audio, Video, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 01-Feb-10 10:44:53 AEDST)

I know it's not for a Landy stereo... my point is, this guy Vlad is in Melbourne and obviously a very smart cookie. He developed the Blaupunkt interface from scratch for his son and then started selling it, so I hear.

Maybe, if a group of like-minded individuals were to approach him with a couple of donor head-units for testing and development, and a supply of alcohol (or whatever he likes), perhaps he might consider doing something similar for the Land Rover community?

I don't need such a thing in my P38A Rangie or Freelander as I've already swapped the original stereo over for an iPod integrated unit.

    Cheers, Paul.

I ended up Installing one of these....

Ipod input, Bluetooth and Reversing camera.. It also plays CD's, DVD's USB flash drive with movies/mp3 and the wireless.
