I don't have NBN, but I stopped at a take-away shop the other day and they had a sign up that said "No Eftpos, No phone orders, Thanks NBN". Must be terrible if you are running a business, not just the frustration, but loss of earning as well, of course you pro'ly can't sue for damages.
So tonight Netflix won't play, despite us restarting our Optus NBN after the dorm, and a speed test shows its managing a pitiful 11 Mbs download and a glorious 1 Mbs upload. Fabulous system. Whose dumb idea was it to use copper instead of fibre?

We only get around 3mbps on our ADSL 2 and Netflix works OK.
I get over 90 all the time through my copper connection. Remember that Ethernet can transfer data at Gigabit speeds, so copper alone is not the culprit, but old crappy connections between your house and the node might.Quote:

You could be right. All I know is the speed is unusually low and we've never had this happen before.
Speed plan is 25 from memory. The connection to the house was replaced. I restarted the modem just in case. Then gave up. Will try again tonight. Most of our neighbors are also complaining about their NBN. Their techs have been in the street repeatedly. Just annoying.
The 5G will be much quicker, but it isn't a magic bullet and won't make the NBN redundant. It will still have limitations on the amount of bandwidth it can pass through the tower at any one time, so if everyone just started to use it instead it would soon bottleneck and slow anyway the same as the fixed wireless towers currently do, but it is a very nice addition to the mix and hopefully will help reduce issues in a few years once it's more widely in use.
Also be aware that no mobile manufacturer currently makes a mass produced 5G capable phone yet - Samsung, Apple, Oppo and others are working with Telstra on the protocol as Australia is leading the way with this tech currently and devices being used to test the system in the areas it is at are either special fixed devices or 4G devices set up with carrier aggregation to allow multiple data streams at once.
Remember that when 4G was rolled out none of the big players had capable phones until about 6 months after the official launch of the system - again because Telstra was the first to roll out a usable network - that would mean the Iphone 11 and the Galaxy 10 would be likely candidates for this tech.
