DAB Radio Aerial on Older Cars

I bought a 76 Jag a few months back and it had a 90s Eurovox radio in it that was past its prime. I bought a new nice looking Kenwood to replace it and this radio had a DAB (Digital Radio Function). This requires a separate aerial that is stuck to the inside windscreen high up on the passenger side.
The actual aerial is just a sticker but it has a small amplifier that sticks to the aerial but it also has a flat 1cm wide earth strap made of sticky stiff that is supposed to be stuck to the metal inside the A pillar.
No problems for a modern car which has the windscreen glued in but the old Jag has the old style thick rubber seal all the way around - inside it is approx 1" wide and the DAB amplifier earth cannot reach the metal.
I rang the supplier of the radio to find out what they do in these situations but no help as he just wanted the car to do the installation - Cha Ching.
Any way - has anyone had to deal with this situation and what did you do? I was thinking of making a little metal tab out of aluminium - maybe 1.5" long and 1cm wide and pop riveting it to the inside of the pillar and sticking the amplifier earth to it - the tab will be covered up by the pillar trim when it all goes back together.
Also I really know nothing about DAB other than it is very short range, very high quality and stations mainly exist in big cities - an comments on the system?
Thanks
Garry
