    Tx4600

    Hi,
Has anyone had any experiance with the GCM TX 4600, the new thingy that is waterproof and has tri colour back light etc? I got a quote today for one with ariel and cable etc for $490.
It looks good and I would mount it on the front of the cubby box for the time being.
I was wondering if the extra money was worthwhile, instead of say the GCM TX3400, or even one of the uniden models (could save $150 or more!) though I would prefer to buy Australian and dont mind paying a 'Little' bit more for that.

I dont think I will use it a great deal, but you never know!

Yes I have one and that's where I mounted it. The TX4600 is a good unit, I've had it for 4 months. The other nice feature is it has a battery meter in it so you can check the battery and charging voltage easily.

I can post some pics if you want.

I have a TX3400 in my Disco as the size suites the Disco well.

    Battery meter??
I did'nt think it had batteries, or are you saying it reads the landy's battery, if so that coul be usefull.
I have seen it cheaper on the web, but I also want to support local trade and all that. Did you pay a similar price?
I intend to build a larger cubby box so I can rest my elbow on it while on long trips, store more stuff ,and will also make a slot to sit the uhf in.

One of the Uniden models had a GPS built in, sort of interested me though I know it's a gimik, but something like that might stop me forking out $144 for a silva dashboard compass.

I hate spending money, you know when it's spent you'r going to be wondering what else you could have bought with the money.
Have you noticed that when women buy something they dont keep looking at prices in other shops and tormenting themselves over what they spent! not like us blo.....er, perhapse it's just me.

The TX4600 has a digital read out of the line voltage (mine's wired straight to the battery so its the battery voltage). This can be changed to be the signal strength and is the same area the SelCall number displays in. You can download the manual for it from the GME Web Site.

I looked at the Uniden with the GPS as someone mentioned it. Seems like it works best if you're talking to someone else on a similar Uniden as you can then locate each other, seemed a bit of a gimick to me.

As for price I paid a similar amount as you mentioned. It was a show special at the Melbourne 4wd Show last October - Aerial + Radio.

Thanks for info on those things,
I will have a look at the manual. Probably will go for that model, though might just check out a 4x4 scrappers, they must come in on wrecked vehicles etc.

Doubt if you'll get it via a wreckers as the unit's only been out for no more than a year. You might pick up a TX3400 though.

I like the fact the TX4600 is splash proof. In the Defender it means I can clean inside easier.
