Techo needed for CODAN 8727 in Melbourne

I bought a Codan 8727 on fleabay and finally installed it. Well it doesn't transmit.
Can anyone recommend a good technician in Melbourne (or somewhere else if they're really good) and dare I say it - wont charge the earth?

    thanks

    Time for an update.

firstly - thanks for the replies.

I took it to Timeplus - since they advertise on 4x4-TV.

I explained that I had bought it on ebay, had installed it and was not sure that it was working properly. I also said that I didn't want to spend much because it might just be throwing good money after bad. The chap there plugged it into his bench power supply and aerial, pushed a few buttons (there are only a couple on the unit) and said "well, it's not transmitting. It'll have to be checked over by our techo". I asked that they tell me how much it would cost to repair since it might not be worth it. This was 2 weeks before my big trip around Corner Country.

Well days passed and soon it was time to leave. I phoned 3 times to check it's progress. "I'll have to ring you back" - never heard back. I had much more important turbo and head gasket issues so I left it.

When I got back from 2 weeks outback travel (fortunately another in the convoy had a HF radio) I rang to see how things were going. Still not finished. Another week and finally it was ready to pick up.

I was given the unit back with a service note and a bill. The note read "Unit checks OK. Suggest checking installation wiring". The bill was $93.00

I was shocked - I paid and left. The next day, having time to think things over I went back and spoke to the manager. I explained the situation and said that I thought it was unreasonable to charge me so much considering it was on the basis of his 5 min bench test that I agreed to have the unit properly assessed. That no one ever returned my calls and I was never quoted any prices. He saw my point of view and refunded $43.00

So all ends well. It turns out it was working properly all the time - just that I live in an area with really poor HF reception (suburbia, power lines, trees etc).

I wont need it now for years probably .....
    Disappointing.

    A couple of options.
    1. If you are in the LROCV get in contact with Jeff Sparks, he does lots of HF radio stuff for other members. He is a bit out of town in the Macedon Ranges.
    2. It could be your installation, Did you use 6mm cable from the battery to the set (with 30amp cartridge fuse of course)
    3. Did you fit the additional earth to the set and the remote head?
    4. Do you have an autotune antenna and is it tuning?
    5. Join the Codan group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/codan_outback_radio/ and ask the question on that list.

Sorry I can't help with a local technician.

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
