Looking at the specs, this does 2m and 70cm. What are those frequencies used for here? Will the 70cm band go up high enough to give the UHF CB frequencies?Quote:

Both the 2m and 70cm bands are for amateur use.
With the mod, it works happily on UHF CB freqs and VHF commercial freqs. Disclaimer: its illegal to use more than 5w on CB (believe it or not, even the CB repeaters are limited to 5w:eek:)
I have access to a network of linked 50 watt VHF repeaters through my work which makes it very useful for long range communication on the east coast. Its also great for police and emergency service RX - in QLD nothing is encyrpted outide the Brisbane metropolitan area.

Was looking at the Icom 208H, 2720 (Have one already) and the new 2820H. It appears mine with mod will not hit the tx CB but very keen on your comments so I take it your using a CB cut antenna or pushing the 477 through the ham ant. Any further advice as this will save having two radios, Geoff

Just bought a 208H from Prestige Communications for $399 delivered courier to door and out of the box has the mod for extended Rx Tx so does the UHF CB and easily puts the full power into 477 area.
The mod is the removal of two resistors. Only did power tests and receive sensitivity appears to be up to standard from the local repeaters. Forgot about the swearing and idiots but they were good value for received checks.
So for you hams like I, I found you can just use medium power to keep swr within range on standard duel bander. I found 1.8:1 at medium a dedicated 477 cut will be just that much better if you only need the CB for the day, cheers Geoff
The uh095sx you have is not a UHF and VHF, its a UHF and HF. Ie 477mhz and 27mhz

Guys, you're talking about different things.
Troy's researching the dual band CB (477MHz UHF CB and 27Mhz - actually HF not VHF Troy;)) whereas the other 2 radios mentioned are dual band VHF/UHF amateur radios. (144MHz and 433Mhz bands)
I realise they can be "adjusted" to use CB 477Mhz but they won't work on 27Mhz.
Don't know much about the CB Troy but they sound like a great idea for remving clutter in the cabin. (and legal too ;))

I went with two radios both gme one UHF the other 27mhz am/ssb/upper and lower good for local and long range often pick up tassie and northern Q/land from sydney. If your going real bush you may need HF for RFDS.

By clutter I meant only one microphone and speaker, etc. (obvioulsy you still need 2 different antennas)
