phone model ?
the data services need enabling on your sim card so first off you need to contact your phone company and make sure it is enabled.
All I want to do is to be able to send/receive MMS messages. People send them to me but I can't download them. My phone is capable of receiving them but I have no idea what to do.
I don't want to access the 'Net by phone (that would cost too much and I'm on a different ISP to my phone anyway).
I need a verbal tutorial on this stuff. Is there anyone out there who understands it and can explain it to me?

XDA IIi PDA phone - not supported by Telstra. I'll ring them to see if I'm configured to use MMS.
When I try setting it up it says I don't have a modem set up.
I've tried set ups from other similar HTC phones, e.g., iMate, Qtek
When you get the config info from Telstra for those phone, you are offered several choices, e.g. pre-paid Internet (well, I don't want that I don't think), pre-piad WAP (I think I need that), and something else. I dunno if I have to set up of of them.
Since leaving telecoms, I've become a Luddite.

Telstra may not support your phone directly but it doesn't mean it won't work, just that they haven't tested for this phone yet. Should be a simple case of aking them to turn it on in your account and then sending the settings as a text msg to your phone. When you open this, it should automatically update your data settings which tell your phone how to connect to telstra etc. If not, just ask them for the connection settings to enter manually.
The XDA IIi PDA is a great phone and made for surfing the web so you should really jump onto it! I work in a mobile marketing agency and can see a lot of really cool things on the horizon - all the carriers are about to drop their data charges as advertisers jump on to the mobile web bandwagon. So, the carriers will be charging the advertisers rather than their customers. Stay tuned for some really cool developments that every man and his dog will use!
Ring up Telstra, get MMS enabled first.
Then jump on this forum Forums @ MTekk
someone there will know the settings for that phone on Telstra.
Matt.
Aha! That explains why none of the config settings I found on various fora worked. MMS wasn't activated back in Telstra.
I'll try again in a couple of hours.
I was confused as I have received MMS messages that I couldn't view.
Weird - I drive a P38A and I shun technology. I still use a VCR, not a DVD recorder which, when I had one, was an absolute pain to use. It's much easier to shove a tape in and press record, not erasure necessary.

Well, enabling MMS in Telstra hasn't helped. The phone is asking me to ensure my work modem is connected.
The owner's handbook isn't any help.
THe info on the Mtekk forum doesn't work either.
Time to forget the whole thing.

You probably need to configure both the MMS AND Data/Internet settings (this will include an APN). Ask Telstra for the MMS and Internet settings, once you have them it shouldn't be too difficult to enter them into your phone ... maybe ...![]()
