    ICOM IC-400PRO

getting one sent to me shortly thanks to a friend....

how does one turn off the dreaded beep on bootup? is it a simple thing to turn off in the programming software?

i know it would make the unit illegal but just for the sake of knowing... can the power be boosted to the std uhf 40 channels by putting them into a private channel bank when programming? or is there an easier way? or ?

it can be boosted, software install I think, I don't have one but know of a few users that do. They may confirm the upgrade requirements.

I have not done it to mine but I'm told it's easy once you have it plugged in to change the power. There is info around on the internoodle about power changing but I'm not going to pretend to know straight off the top of my head.

You may recall the software for PC is on here already.

The programming cable does not come with the package so unless your mate is throwing it in you'll have to get one. I got mine off an ebay seller for 30 bucks plus 5 bucks postage from memory. Original is 70 bucks+. I recently looked and they are still on ebay as of a few weeks back.

Beep is done by software. I couldn't do it on the actual unit. I'm told you can but I couldn't work it out.

the beep is deactivated via the programming software (cable and laptop needed) agreed it is VERY annoying and loud ,one of the first "mods" that was done to mine,cb channels moved to one of the private banks allows for the higher wattage to be selected, although not really neccesary unless you want to overrun everyone in transmit distance and make oneself unpopular with other users, can be adjusted without puta once changed to private banks, via a certain pushing of buttons ,bit like secret handshakes then simply replace the 40 cb channels with 40 that are listen only and you still have another 40 to play with over a few banks whichever way you so desire, for a few ideas try this link,

According to the info on the Yahoo groups, both are programming options with the software. I have the "no beep" mod on my todo list, so if I ever get round to hooking up the laptop to the thing, I'll check the option option for you while I'm there.

Had a very quick play at the weekend.

The option in the software that looked like it would shut the power-on beep up, didn't...so I'm going to have another look at that bit when I next get home.

However, on the power front, it looked like you could go into each of the CB channels in the first channel bank and change each individually from the L2 (5w) default to High. However, I didn't pull the dash apart to get a power meter and dummy load on the back, and I changed it back to the defaults when I'd finished playing, so I have no idea if it actually did it or not. It said it did....

It also looked as if you could set a systemwide default whereby pressing "Function" then "Moni" should toggle between High and Low power modes, but this didn't appear to do anything when I tried it. So, I've no idea if the radio deliberatley doesn't do this for the CB bank (Which would make sense, as it would be illegal!), if it needed the mic on-hook (I don't have mine hooked up to a grounded mic holder) like it does for scanning, or if I was interpreting the badly documented semi-English help file incorrectly.

On the plus side, my lead works!

ok for as far as i know the beep has to be done internally solder across two terminals as it is not part of the software i have the software to power up to 25 and also the software to boot up to 35w and you dont need to move the cb into user banks to power up with the software i have also all of the nifty stuff that is only available for "comercial" use can all be acsessed via the software i am using
Cheers Shaun..also so it wil scan off hook pull mic apart and solder the earth on the board will scan no matter where the mic is
