    Yeah all UHF.

Amateur (70cm) UHF is 433Mhz (approx) and UHF CB is 477Mhz.

Lots of Ham radio guys use commercial equipment on 70cm but may even be able to tune it to 477 and use it as a CB.

Your right though, most commercial stuff is of higher quality and too good to throw - Just gotta find a use for it!

I got onto a guy in Adelaide off another forum that said it's possible to convert the Philips with a turn of a pot and a new Eprom but the problem being that I need to find some one to do it.

The Sawtrons are apparently a different story as it is apparently built into the board what they are designed to do with very little adjustment available other than Eprom program within the range that is built in.

Oh well, something will come up one day and I will pull them out from under the bench and dust them off.

mcrover,i will take the sawtron thats not working off your hands (for parts )if you like.you can contact me 0422815611 be aware with commercial radios, they might be built more robust, but because of their higher output, they run alot hotter.in cars and trucks their ok but start knocking them around offroad and they can sometimes be troublesome.eric

Be aware that if they are VHF they are probablly private frequencies purchased by the ambulance service and it is an offence under the telecommunications act to transmit on them. The majority of VHF frequencies are just that user pay, bu there are some free to use frequencies such as boating channels. VHF wont be a lot of use to you in general if they are set up for private channels. Of course you could buy your own channel, but it would be restrictive.
A good tech will be able to reprogramme them for you to suit.
We use VHF at work as private trunked channels.
We use a company called Commsource.
The 25w UHF's sound like the goods.
