Don't know I own my one. Only need it once, and when I did it was very very useful.

Can any member tell me the date that the old epirbs are no longer monitored

I believe it's Feb 09.

TR Corporation (TechRentals) handle Irridium as rental including voice and data, don't know the price but from experience service and support should be good.

Do remember they are eye wateringly expensive if you actually have to use them. And they aren't very reliable either in our experience. IE you have to give them a long time to locate the satelites (sometimes 10 minutes plus) and sometimes they don't work at all! They aren't something you can leave on the dash and rely on.

Then, if you have to use them a couple of minute call can leave you $20+ worse off.

I understand they may be for life threatening situations only though.

this certainly has NOT been my experience, if you stop, get out, and give it a look at the sky, IME you'll get through ok

What network were they on. I think there are two systems.

I think my friends are on "globalsat"?? It was rubbish. Their phone roamed onto vodaphone as well, which meant they didn't have much conventional coverage at all.
