    11 tap hf aerial

    Hi all
I have a 11 tap hf aerial with a new spring base and if you are on a moderately rough bit of track it flops around every where. Has any one had the same problem, if so, what is the fix. Do the 3 tap aerials flop around as much. Dont want to go the autotune at this stage but with the 11 tap aerial I may have to before I wipe out a pedestrian
    cheers

Hi, I think the problem may be in the quality of the spring base. I used to have a 10 tap aerial before going to an autotune, I kept the same spring for both applications. The whip I have now on the autotune is similar size and weight to the former 10 tap. Over the years these springs do permanently bend back a bit. Mine is a CODAN spring base.

Just about guarantee it is the spring base. On our recent trip we had to splint the HF aerial on Numpties Defender as it was in danger of either removing the UHF aerial or the windscreen. The HF on mine however hardly moved (and I think the aerial is the same weight or heavier although longer and hence more leverage) his spring was definitely lighter though

A while back, brother in law cracked a windscreen due to a crook aerial base. The metal tip on the top of the HF whip repeatedly clipped the top corner of the screen.

I had thought of puting a rubber pipe sleeve over it and a hose clamp top and bottom. Sound like its a common problem though.
