    Philips FM91 or PRM80?

Hello all, I'm looking at buying a UHF radio to play with, can anyone help me choose between a PRM80 and an FM900 (FM91)?
I like the look of the FM91 head unit with all the buttons!
I also like the fact that the PRM80 can be programmed without taking the eeprom out!
    Hmmmmmmm.............

    Cheers,
    Fraser

I vote for the PRM80 - provided that the capacitors on the control board are either late model or have been replaced with tantalums(I think that's the right type). Even if the caps are the standard electro's, the mod is pretty easy. Then there is of course the simple (and easily obtainable) programming. Avoid getting the out of band modded versions, whilst they work, it's better if the rf section hasn't been altered.

However, if a FM91 comes along - and you somehow get the eeprom programmer - the only thing of interest is that part of the rf stage gets loose and needs to be resoldered occasionally.

But if you are really lucky - go Tait 2020. Plugs straight into a PC and none of the above problems. Will do max watts all day and never complain. I've had one for some time and it has always done good.

Thanks Langy, I got a PRM80 8030 today from ebay, and have ordered a programming lead, now to track down the microphone with all the buttons for it!

Just waiting for my membership of the PRM80 group on yahoo to be approved!

    Oh.........and an antenna!
