    GME TX3440 bonus pack

    The GME TX3440 UHF radio

Last Friday I went to the local communications specialist shop to see if was worth to repair the old Uniden radio that I have in the garage to fit it on Rustic.

I find out that the Uniden was a CB so I even do not bother to see what the problem with it was. It went to the bin.

Browsing in the showroom for models of radio which can be concealed or removed from the car for security purposes I spotted a GME bonus pack which included the GME TX3440 and the new handheld TX680 3 watt radio for the price of the TX3440 alone.

I think that the value is good so even if I was considering to get a 5watt handheld Icom UHF radio at the beginning for the same money this unit was a good option because by removing the microphone when the radio is not in use gives very similar security as the handheld 5 watt models and also in the value pack have the TX680.

I fitted the radio module in between the centre console and the drivers seat and the microphone is on the MUD console on the dash.

My concern was if the unit will have sufficient volume to hear it when Rustic was on the road. Testing it at ½ of the volume strength proved that the power is more than adequate.

I recommend this radio and the value pack to any member concerned on security or when installation of a standard radio it is not possible.

Information on the radio is HERERyda Communications - GME TX3440BP2 UHF Radio and Handheld($399.95)

    Cheers

Have a little news for you the GME3440 UHF is also a CB radio, the difference being that the GME3440 is FM in the 144MHz band of the UHF spectrum while your old Uniden is AM in the 27 MHz band of the HF spectrum. Both of those bands are allocated to what is commonly termed Citizens Band ( CB ), outside these bands you need a licence of some form like an Outpost Mobile, Commercial, Avaition or Marine etc.

In regards to the GME3440, I was in ARB Sydenham yesterday talking about exactly the same package. Can you believe that some customers didn't want the bonus pack at the same price! Go figure?

Yes - I was looking for antenna bits to use a Phillips FM commercial UHF unit that I could swap between my SIIB and SIII FFR, in the end I decided to get the GME bonus pack and fit it in the FFR permanently so I didn't have to have drill too many non standard holes and didn't have to find a place for the remote head.

Wish I new of the price at Ryda - I would have bought it there instead, although time and running around was a factor.

    I think you mean 477MHz.

PS. Chucaro, It wasn't a SSB set (the Uniden set) by any chance? They can still be fun to use.
