ok so you can change the gps that is on there how do i do that
I have an iphone and the av out cables and i play movies on my plasma with it but the normal iphone screen doesn't go onto the plasma only the movie thats playing. I just tested and the gps app's screen doesn't go out through the av cable. I have sygic's which is 79 from app store and its ok to use but i reckon the gps antenna is pretty poor because its slow if you aren't in mobile reception area. Agree that it sucks a lot of power too.
its on sale now at 59.99 used to be 79 when i bought it. Tom Tom 99.99. I don't think you have much choice if you want voice guided turn by turn on an iphone. The maps app (google maps) that come on the phone standard require internet connection to download maps as you go and have no voice guidance. At least the Sygic and Tom Tom install maps so you don't need a phone signal to run them.
i'm not sure. Maybe its available to you because it synchs with your computer so the app files are sitting on both. I could be wrong as my iphone is my first Apple experience. I reckon that Apple is like Microsoft on steroids so having said that maybe they would make you pay again.
Yes the iphone 3GS has a gps receiver. You also need a program (Sygic or Tom Tom) with maps to make use of the receiver. I have had 4 gps phones or devices and the iphone is by far the worst but at least it does work. The original question was if the gps screen could be 'sent' to an external larger screen. The answer is no. All that goes out the av cables is the ipod app's player output. I have tested this. All of the normal iphone apps show on the iphone screen only, with a 'no signal' message on the external screen. If you play a movie, then the external screen comes to life with quite a good picture really.

By worst I mean slowest and least accurate gps, but it does work. You have to be patient sometimes for it to catch up. I find the Sygic application quite good though. I reckon the iphone is the best pda/phone I have had.
