Dont know if the iphone can be plugged into an external screen. You used to be able to buy a cable from Apple that would let you plug your ipod into an s-video connection to play movies or show photos on a TV. Perhaps see if that is an option you can use.

I thought for my tomtom application the screen was plenty big enough???

As for playing music via your ipod and usb cable your stereo deck will need to be compatiable with the iphone. It may be easier to play the music through the headphone jack on the ipone.

    2 things:

    1. You can get an AV out cable from Apple. I have two, one is component out (for my HD TV), the other is composite (for car headunit which has a 7" screen). So long your 12v monitor has composite inputs you'll be fine

Apple Composite AV Cable - Apple Store (Australia)

    2. You can't hook your iPhone to your headunit via USB to play music as the iPhone doesn't support it. It probably won't charge either. Either use the headunit's aux-in or an iPod adapter.

No, it only sends audio and video out. It doesn't even display the iPhone menus on the TV.

I don't know much about the GPS but I've heard the built in GPS ain't all that good and TomTom are looking at making a cradle with an external GPS in it!

The gps is average but with assisted gps on as well its plenty fine for tomtom navigation. I wouldn't use it off road though.

What software are you using the gps through on the ipone. Sounds like you need one of the navigation apps or you need to buy a complete gps/navigation unit.

Also what version of the iphone do you have? I think only the 3g phones have actual GPS receivers while the rest are assisted GPS.

It supposedly better performance on the other navigation apps (navigon and the other one). Whether or not TomTom are doing this to encourage the uptake of the new mount I'm not sure but if its the right price I'll get one purely for the recharge ability in the car and a decent dock for it to sit it in.

If that cradle worked with the iPod touch, I'd buy it!

i use sygic gps app and it flogs tom tom's effort clean out of the court in my experience. way better recption, way less lag, way more accurate and a better interface to boot imho.

i can have my iphone in the parcel tray of the county and the gps works very well everywhere i have been with it..

battery life diminishes heaps but as a gps it is excellent... i use a cigarette power plug adaptor with it.
