UHF radio, advice on location, antenna etc.
Ok, so my old man is thinking about getting me a nice UHF for the discovery for christmas.
I've got my eyes on the new GME 3100. Anybody got one, anybody have any experience with the brand in general, or should I stick to a regular uniden?
Now the importaint questions, antenna mount. should I get a z bracket to put it by the bonnet, or mount something on the bullbar?
My alloy bar has no mounts, if I get one for there, what materials should I avoid to avoid corrosion issues?
Antenna, it's ground independent that I want if it's nto a central mounting, right?
I'm looking at a basic antenna that I can unscrew when not in use. but which DB? Tassie is pretty hilly in places, I was thinking a 5 or 6 DB one. Copmments?
and where have people got radios mounted in the Discovery series 1's, especially earlier vehicles.
