G'day mate,

i have a GME Tx 3440 remote head unit which i think is bloody great for the fact of the actually speaker unit can be hidden away under the dash as i have done with mine. as in the antenna i have a 3+6 elevated Db as i do alot of 4wdin in hilly areas. Have had these for about over a year and have not had any prob's.

as in the way of a bracket i just got a u bolt bracket from supercrap and put it on the bullbar and have not had any probs with corrosion or movement.

Same here. You should of looked at my setup when you were at my place mate. But remote head is the way to go as you have limited dash space already. Either that or get one of the new TINY units like 2_door has.

the on i'm looking at, the new tx3100 has been said to be about the size of a pack of cigarettes, so that should be small enough

And it's a little cheaper than the TX3440.

I'd be hesitant to use a Z bracket... It only takes one branch to catch it and damage the panel.

I wouldn't be too fussed about sacrificial anodisation on an aerial mount. The bolts will likely be stainless/coated and besides - It took 44 years for anodisation between bare surfaces to become a problem on Ambrose. In 44 years your plastic girls car will be but a distant memory, sinking into the earth.

No problems with GME quality. I have been using a 4200 for the last 12+ years without any issues. And Defenders aren't that dust proof.

IMO for a solid mount, mount to the B/bar on a spring base. Not the most ideal place for Rx/Tx but it is good compromise.
For hilly areas I have had best success with 4.5 dB gain antenna. Use higher gain out on the plains.

I have a Z-mount bracket on my Discovery II - it's worked fine up until now.

For my radio - I purchased a dash pod from a crowd in Sydney - not cheap but it works very well. When I ordered it I told them what radio was going in it and they cut the front to suit the size of the radio.

If I was doing it again I would go for the flat top with a bead around the outer edge and use it to store 'stuff' on - I have the padded vinyl top.

Oh, I paid a little extra and had them mount a radio speaker in it for me. I wouldn't do that again. The speaker quality is less than impressive. My old Dick Smith remote speaker was more understandable...

Nothing wrong with GME stuff in my experience.

Perhaps look at their interchangable aerials. Unity gain in the hilly stuff, high gain for the desert & similar.

Am on this raod myself at the moment. Heading towards the iddy biddy tiny one just now but i know GME are doing a roll out of the 3220 with an antenna for around $300.

Auto barn had it for $339, but prestige has it for $291.
