RFI make a very good product in my opinion.
The other one is twice the price, for less perfomance, 6.5db & 6db.
I would go for the RFI unless the "look" is more important.![]()
Hi folks
Well I was chatting to another forum-ite (AussiAub) on the way down a local major road the other day and when I turned off and got about about 100m away he was losing my signal...
Now I currently have a "Benelec Traveller" which was on the car when I bought it, but have never really liked, so I was thinking of swapping over to the RFI CD 900. I had this unit on my old Paj and (for the limited times I used it) it seemed to perform pretty well...see here:
RFI CD900 Rugged 6.5db Antenna - $90.20
But I quite like the look of the marine white antennas like this:
Prestigecom.net.au Mobile One CP476S 6db UHF CB Antenna - $190.00
Can anyone advise the pluses & minuses of each type of antenna, both are ground independent.
Cheers
Mike

I figured I knew the RFI worked well, and it was recommended to me the first time I had one...
But I don't seem to see many, it's usually the other type and wondered if I was missing something??
What I liked about the RFI on my Paj was that they gave me a little 3.5?? db for dunes etc (that I still have) and I could just unscrew & swap them over...
Cheers

I have a RFI CD5000. It works well. However, I am yet to test it out properly.

They are a good robust antenna. I've had one on a D2a and currently one on my Tdi Defender for the last few years.

That's a bit how I felt with my first CD900...didn't really get to use it enough!
The CD900? I'm thinking now that I'll go this way again - it's what the salesman recommended when I had the Paj, but sometimes, y'know, if you're not really knowledgable you wonder if it's hard to tell if it's just what they want to sell you at the time...
Thanks & cheers

Hi, I happen to work for a radio communication company, CD5000 is quite good, but high gain is not always the best option , the higher the gain the more focused the signal . Eg. the higher the gain the signal may become more of a pencil type signal, straight line type signal affected by heaps of lanscaped surrounding, what I recomend and supply mine sites is the GME AE4018K1 about the $100 mark, it has a suggested 6db but its signal is a lot more of a broad spectrum , comes out in a big oval type signal making it a better all round aerial to help rise of lums and bumps ect, hope this helps some what.
Hi guys
Oldish post i know.. but im on the lookout for an antenna also to go with the icom 400 pro i have just bought.
Been looking at the options and Prestige have suggested one of the GME 4703 or 4705 antennas as they are about 1.2m tall and suit the deefer to get the signal going over the back.
however i noticed the RFI explorist.. which seems reasonable value and has a 3db and 6.5db antenna supplied.. the 6.5 is basically the cd 900
Any thoughts...
I also like the mobileone antennas but am trying not to spend too many $$'s
Steve
Hi Guys. The RFI antennas are much better quality than most others, I am a radio tech in the Hunter Valley and the antenna we sell the most and you will see them on just about every mine vehicle here is the RFI CD51, They are smaller, ground independant, 4.5dbi gain and retail around $30. the 900 series are a good antenna and much better quality than the benalec, the CD5000's are for those in their V8 utes with the 5 poster Bull Bar and mud flaps of a road train and a 10 gal hat.
