    USB chargers without radio noise?

I've got 3 USB charger units for my iPod. and they ALL make different noises while the radio is on. Horrible stuff.

When the current draw is heavy (eg very flat iPod) it is much worse. I'm guessing these units are just cheap rubbish with poor RF suppression. Anyone got any suggestions / designs for something better?

    Cheers

Well, i bought one off ebay with a radio transmitter in it for 8 bucks and it's good as gold. It's a bit strange they all play up. Sure you don't have an earth leakage?

I am running a Pioneer head unit with direct iPod control. Much better than mucking around with separate chargers and FM transmitters. I wouldn't go back to the old way!

I can't tell from your avatar or your signature what vehicle you are driving.

If you are running a non-diesel beast (i.e. with spark plugs) are you running 'r' series plugs?

The internal resistor on these plugs is supposed to cut EMF/RFI interference.

    Just a thought.

I'm not sure if these are a straight linear voltage reducer or an inverter type device - if it is creating noise on your radio, it suggests a DC-DC inverter design.
However with 3 units causing the same problem it points to issues with your vehicle or radio wiring.
The best way to verify this of course is to try the chargers in a couple of other cars - if they don't interfere with their radios then maybe further investigation of your vehicle is needed. Check the earthing of the cig lighter socket, and also the earthing of your radio power and antenna wiring.

If they do create the same problems in other cars, I'd go sit outside JB Hi Fi or Dick Smith's, buy one their chargers and try it while there. If no good, take it back and try another type.
