Its a cross between BF2/BF2142 and COD4, I played BF2 for 4 years and still jump on, the bad part at the moment the server interface is lacking so to speak and EA are trying to fix it.
Great game not overly system intensive, core2 duo 2Gig ram min and a 8800gts which is pretty much the norm now. My i7 does it easy.
Only downers I have had is adding friends which is a pain both have to be at the add friend screen, voip doesnt seem to work and bugger all Aust servers.
All in all if you liked BF2/BF2142 and any COD get it.

I'm the same as others. I played BF2 for years and really enjoyed it. BF badcompany 2 is pretty good. I only have it on the PS3 at present as am waiting for delivery of a new gaming laptop. There are only 32 player maps (would love 64) but the gameplay, sound and graphics are great. You have an added bonus to of being able to demolish anything....."hey, is that a sniper in the top window of the building....I'll blow a huge hole in it just to see"
I find it alot more enjoyable than MAG or COD4. Servers seem pretty stable and lag has not been a problem. I am not very good however with the PS3 controller so getting owned by kids 20 years my younger can be a little humiliating. Give me a mouse and keyboard anyday. Might get the PC version once the servers are sorted out.
