What type of wireless network b/g/n?
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone is using a wireless media player to listen to music &/or watch movies.
I have a NAS & a wirelss network and think this might be my next purchase.
Any experience with different brands? Bandwidth issues?
Cheers

Just remember you will struggle to get HD (.MKV files) video over WiFi working to an acceptable level. If it just low res, you will be fine. Despite what the reps in the large chain stores say HD over WiFi is scratchy at best. DLNA over ethernet cable works a treat with a Samsung TV.
Try this 55" 100Hz Full HD LCD TV Series 6 55inch (LA55B650) - LCD TV - Television | SAMSUNG a mate has this TV and it streams MKV's flawlessly.
I have a WD TV Live and it can be networked (Cat5) but has 2x USB 2.0 slots/1x Cat5 so apparently it can stream as well, I just use a good USB drive and run the MKV's and ISO's from it.
Good advice here. I'm using a PS3 and DLNA server. Check the specs of your NAS, it may support it out of the box. Otherwise you can get a DNLA front end for Mac/Windows/*nix to serve up the files and transcode them.
One advantage of PS3 over a 'straight' media server is that you get the games and Blue Ray too. If you don't need that though you can get one for probably less that $100.
For HD files you might need 802.11n or wired connection - trial and error will be the way to know for sure though.

Thanks for the replies all. WiFi network is running N & I haven't upgraded to full HD yet (I know I should but the Minister for Finance doesn't agree). I'll probably use it to stream music 80% to the good stereo & then DVD quality ISO's & Mpeg4 for movies/TV.
The NAS supports uPNP.
Was thinking about something like this on ebay.
Any thoughts?

just set up a new network at home today using a Netgear WNDR3700 router
plugged an external hard drive into the router which automatically shares it out and using a PS3 as a media player.
Setup was stupidly easy and took all of 2 minutes from plugging the HDD in to watching a movie on telly.
that being said, it seemed like the wireless would drop out intermittenly. a couple of times the movie would lose sound, then a few seconds later pause, then a few seconds later would all kick back in. i left it for a phone call, only to come back to find a message like "unable to playback file type". i thought well that sucks you've just played 20mins of the movie!
This could all be issues with the PS3 wireless though, which i understand is fairly primitive.
I'd like to try the Netgear EVA2000 with the wireless-N adaptor. Not a Full HD unit, but personally i dont have any HD content so no issue for me.
