heres a gigabyteboard and intel CPU.
bang per bucks its good value, i just bought some systems based on this board and cpu for work, shop around you should get them for just under $300ea:

GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD5 MAINBOARD
INTEL CORE i7 930 2.80GHz 8MB

the board has the new spec USB3.0 and SATA3,(6Gbs) oh and 3 channel DDR3

you don't get that on a apple

I went with a Gigabyte GA-880GM-USB3 and an AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHZ. Screams along although the fan that ships with the CPU makes a racket.

rep the intell qwad with water cooling kit

nice and silent, and cold

nice and quiet but voids the warranty

check out the bios and any CD you got with the board for power saving software and settings. For a while bow the gigabyte boards have come with software that dials back the cpu when not used and slows the fan down too.

glad you went gigabyte they are a top notch board, I don't think I have ever had one die

i forgot to ask, did you upgrade the power supply too, maybe you had a decent one to start with?
I generally look at about the 500w range-ish

You have lots to choose from. I also like Asus Motherboards and have never had an issue with them apart from the are a little bit more expensive, but i suppose you get what you pay for.

I liked the Asus P7P55D-E and the P7P55D-E Pro, matched with the Intel I7 860.

Intel is defiantly the best bang for buck CPU in the market today. I was an AMD supporter for years, but if you read any comparison charts and compare the specs of the CPU's, Intel wins hands down.

Just make sure that you pair the correct RAM to the motherboard. I like to run 4GB of DDR3 2200 on my P7P55D-E Pro motherboard and it flys.
