Thread: to all mac users

I have a 17 inch macbook pro that i am about to downgrade to the new entry level model of the macbook pro which is around $1490. Mostly for ease of transport. I want something that i can use on the train without taking up two seats and fit in a backpack. I love my mac and cant image a situation it wont cope with.

for later when you are looking for your desk top, i have the mini mac....it been perfect since taking it out of the box. keep in mind i only surf the net and sent the odd email so it does everything i need plus more

mac....it just works

we have been solidly mac for a long time and my basic three year old macbook has taken an awful pounding (three young kids) and it keeps on performing beautifully. Macbook pros are seriously nice bits of gear though particularly if you are doing a lot of video work.

Both my daughters have Macbook Pro's for graphics work. I'm not up with the latest hardware options, but definitely recommend paying for a Apple Care warranty.
The only issue they've had in almost 3 years is that the eldest daughter's battery died a couple of months ago.
It was replaced under the Applecare warranty - pretty good in my book - I dont think even our on-site HP warranties at work cover batteries.

Is it better to spend the xtra on getting an i5 model or will the intel core duo
keep up with the vids/graphics

Mate... it's hard to know. The entry level ones are really great. Until only a couple of months ago core duo's were all that was available. I'm sure the i5 would rock but you have to decide if you need it.

Keep in mind that macs run faster on similar hardware as the OS is faster, plus they aren't laboured with virus/spyware checkers.

duo is fine, as a ball park figure double the Ghz on the i5 and that'll be ABOUT the same as a dcore speed. so a 1.8 i5 as more or less a 3.2Dcore.

Dont waste your money on the i3 unless is has special fetures you want or it's very cheap.

As for graphics, if you do lots of pictures either will, do if you do lots of video go the i5 if you can the extra cores really help.

Whatever you are getting look for 4GB.

Saying that I guess the CPU advise will still hold true
