Yes - if true. But then - why isn't it happening 24/7 if it's that easy - or is it that these Russians can't get an iPhone yet cos everyone wants one - unlike the Android copies?

not virii per see but rogue apps that steal data or money.

same outcome as a virus, not same method of getting the data.

as much as apple can vet an app, some apps use genuinely useful and legitimate system routines to actually pilfer data so it becomes very very hard to manage what is really happening in an application.

several labs are working on a way of reliably doing it in an automated manner

Don't worry Ferret - I have discovered why this isn't actually an issue - because it's been fixed!

    JailbrakeMe

You don't have to down load an 'app' - just down load a PDF from a website to get root access into the OS, do whatever you want from there. If you are not being malicious then just install the jailbreak software, on the other hand you might be inclined to install something a little less innocuous.

Of course Apple will fix it as will Google fix their problem.

Apple have fixed it - I think it will be an ongoing problem for the rest.

Hooray, Apple plugs another hole. Seriously, it is an ongoing issue with all except for Apple fanbois.

At the other end of the spectrum Blackberry is being threatened with bans in some countries because some aspects of their security has proved too difficult to allow governments to monitor their users activities. I note neither Android, iPhone or Symbian are on that list.

    Agreed! Happy Days!

Here is a good example of why I am a Fan - last night, I was thinking about how I might make a FaceTime call when I get my iPhone - given I have Ethernet and no WIfi setup. Then I realised - my iMac has a thing called Airport built in. Long story short - I managed to set up my own secure Wifi network at my home - in 2 minutes flat.

    It's easy with Apple stuff.

its a bigger issue for those that dislike apple for the sake of disliking apple, actually..

    symbian is a minefield

android is heading in the same direction tho no where near as bad, yet so there is still time

blackberry will capitulate or lose market share and put servers in all the regimes blowing up about it..

apple is apple, no virus, but the occasional security issue and an attitude of silence till fixed.

Just clarify in case it gets taken out of context, I am not referring to anything related to Apple at this point, I think we do agree very much on other issues.
