    Windows PC for business to Apple?

    Hi all.

    I have considered Apple before. I was always impressed with what I saw. Now have had my Iphone 4 for a few months after having a host of smart phones it has made me think that I should go apple for work - its just so good. I plan to take my old work PC home and at home I have my Lenovo laptop also.

    I need to run MS Office Pro and at ($$$$) I can buy that for Apple. I think I can get MYOB for Apple and probably some other stuff I need such as Olympus dication software and I think my Dragon Naturally Speaking should run on Apple (?), but what of any compatibility problems with other programs and my Lenovo etc. Will my secretary still be able to send me meeting requests when she is on MS Office for windows - using her Outlook...I know I cant get them on the iphone? Further has Apple addressed the spam problem in its e-mail package...or do I just solve a heap of problems by using Outlook for Apple?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    if you can wrap your head around the changes to the menus and the setup of the interface try open office, Its available for pretty much everything is free and talks to pretty much everything out there.

    across all the platfroms open office is the same so it doesnt matter if youre on mac MS or linux unix or even os2 its all the same so long as you can read the media you save your files to.

    Check what email system your office is using. If it's Exchange you might have some problems with non Entourage or Outlook programs (this could affect calendering).

    There may also be some issues reading Office 2007/2010 file formats. Earlier versions will be fine (ie .doc, .xls).

    OS X Snow Leopard (the current version) has integration with MS Exchange built in, so calendaring and email will sync with iCal and Mail.

    Stay away from Outlook on Mac, you're better off with Mail. This might change with the latest version of Office for Mac that is due out rsn.

    The Mac also works with Small Business Server.

    The current version of Office for Mac is compatible with the latest .docx and .xlsx formats but macros are not supported (no VB for Mac). I do prefer OpenOffice on the Mac.

    Yes, there is a Mac version of MYOB but it's only the entry level product and while it works I don't think it gets much development. If you need more sophisticated accounting, multi-user, etc it may not do the job for you.

    Thanks for your help all...in the end I decided that I would go the way of Windows 7 pro 64 bit and PC - i7 930 LGA 1366 wit the top Gigabit board 6g ram, the ultra fast Seagate 1.5t drive, the top spec Asus writer, 750w power supply. The only thing it doesnt have is a solid state drive, but the thing should be blindingly fast anyway.
