Question Sending Outlook Emails with large attachments??

I run Outlook 2007 on a laptop (Win7) and desktop (XP) and have had a problem for a while emailing with large attachments (anything greater than about 1Mb). It appears that when the emails are “sent” and go to the Outbox and the computer does a “send & receive”, the computer chugs away sending it but seems to time out and throw a “send & receive error”. It will then try to send it again. But it has actually sent the email and so will continue around the cycle and send multiple copies until it is removed from the outbox. This is a PITA and of course clogs up the recipients’ inbox with multiple large emails.

It can only be got around by sending emails directly from the ISP’s web-email site (Bigpond) where everything works OK.

Is there a setting in Outlook to tell it to try longer to perform the send & receive? Is it some other issue at play????

The computers are on Bigpond ADSL broadband.

Your help or any advice would be appreciated......

    Cheers,
    Chris

how often does it check for new mail?

you usually only see those sorts of errors if you have the setting to check new mail set under a couple minutes.

Is your anti-virus set to scan outgoing emails? That can take forever. Have not seen it duplicate the send though.

    Hi,
I know Outlook has a setting that will offer to resize the photos, but it should send full size ok.
Are you sending in plain text or formatted HTML. Outlook does combine the HTML and attachments when sending and unpacks them at the other end.
You could try sending in plain text and see if that makes any difference.
    cheers

Stuuu, I have reset my anti-virus to not scan outgoing emails and see how this goes...

Austastar, The attachments are usually not photos but pdfs, drawing files etc. Photos are usually resized as you suggested. Will try the plain text option if the problem persists.

    Thanks all.
