    Hi,
I would be very surprised if it was not compatible with W7.
It has some very nice features, but MS Office has more bells and whistles as you would expect for the price.
However for a piece of free software it is very capable, and I have used it to sort out problems in documents that MSO had created and would not fix.
    cheers

Open office is fine and works well.

transferring documents between windoze and oo can be a pain at times. Docs work well if saved as an .rtf , presentations are best not transferred if it can be avoided, excel, while still full of bugs after many years, has a lot more features and is more intuitive than oo spreadsheet.

The latest version of Microsoft Office produces .DOCX documents. As I am too tight to buy the latest sofware, when I am sent a .DOCX file I open it in Open Office and save it as a .DOC file so I can use MSO 2003 on it. I prefer the MSO to open .DOC files as the formatting is better than when Open Office opens them.

I have used it for the last decade or so. I have had no problems exchanging documents and spreadsheets with Micro$oft Office users. It does all I need to do.

It may soon be replaced by LibreOffice which is currently available in Beta.

    It is available for W7.

I have used Open Office for about ten years. While it would be an exaggeration to say it has no problems, it has none that are sufficient to induce me to even consider using Microsoft products. And while it may not have all the capabilities that MSO has, it probably has at least as many others that MSO does not - one I use routinely is single click .pdf conversion. Also, note that it will open .docx, MSO's default format, but MSO will not open .odt, OOo's default, despite this being a widely accepted, open, format.

On the downside, OOo is an even more bloated package than MSO! In both cases few users would ever use more than 10% of the package's capabilities.

open office saves files in odt etc, which won't open in MS office as said earlier, but you can change the open offices saves options to save in Microsoft formats as default.
