I seem to be having a few issues with my PC.
It currently is running Win7 64 bit but recently has been subject to random reboots. The only recent change has been adding an extra 4gig of RAM.
Running memtest on the original 4 gig finds no errors, running it on the added 4 gig in the vacant slots (with the original 4 gig removed) shows no issues.
Running the full 8gig results in a failure and the PC makes a loud screaming noise, the noise was very difficult to isolate, possibly the power supply but I couldn't really say with any confidence.
Original reboots the code seem to indicate a momentary loss of power, so I'm thinking that the power supply is not up to the job.
Would low voltage cause memory faults ? and where else should I look before replacing the power supply, in case it's not the actual issue.

Motherboard RAM video is separate on card (512meg) not sure of powersupply size - will have to have a look but is original about 2 years old.

I'm now definitely thinking power supply it's only 400W (450W peak)
running 3 HDD as well although looking at a spare it's 12v @ 0.52A per drive

it is possible that the power supply could be overloading or on its way out, i run a 450watt in mine with 2 internal HD's, 2xdvd burners, 2 buy usb/2 4 port hubs and attatched to them 2x printers, 2x external HD's, video cam-usb, 1 wireless usb adapter and a UPS its turned on 24/7 the kids play games on it and it also servs as a server to 5 other PC's in the house, it runs very nicely.
With yours you could replace the power supply and this would cost no more than $50 for a good power rated one to see if it fixes things but i would just about lay odds on a driver problem in win7, if you can do a search online for just the problem you are having and see if any one else is having it, if it is an Intel with NVidia graphics and the driver is not rite windows will have trouble of some sort, another thing go to the motherboard manufacturers site and see if there is a bios flash to fix a problem similartis can be a common problem especially when running near on the max of ram.

Was on the Asus web site last night they have a power supply calculator, where you add in the components and it gives an estimate of the PSU watts required.
With what I've got (allowing for a few usb) I need a min 400W with the extra RAM it went to min 450W, so out to pick up a new PSU later.
Also found a BIOS update to fix a compatibility issue with Kingston RAM ( the exact sticks I have). So install power supply and then flash the BIOS (want reliable power before i head that way)

wait till you replace the PSU and see what happens but the sqealing may have been the
psu or CPU fan, it would be a variable speed and when things may of heated up it could have run at its limit, is it clean if not a fin brush and a can of compressed air works a wonder
