If you do not like the idea of using the command line interface as suggested above, you can use System Information to get the same information.

Click the Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information (from my W7 box, Vista and XP are similar) to open the System Information dialog box. Expand the Componets tree, then the Networks tree and select the Adaptor branch. Scroll down until you find the information for your network connection, it will contain information as described above.

The gateway is probably your router, I say probably because in my case it isn't (thanks Telstra for a next G modem that doesn't connect to a network, I have to use a couple of other smaoke and mirror boxes to use my Internet with a network). Then you can use a browser to connect to the router. If the password etc has been set but forgotten you can reset the router to factory settings by pushing the end of a paperclip into the reset button. If you do thois you will lose all your settings so use it as a last resort and only if you are happy reconfiguring a router!

To set up your laptop/ notebook to access the wireless network depends on the operating system. Vista and W7 will detect a wireless network and offer to connect using a popup at the lower right corner.

If that doesn't work open the network and sharing center (W& Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center). Click the Connect to a Network link.

Should be a reset to factory default hole on the back? Have you got the manual or can look it up on line? Which router is it?

    2. Howcan I set up my laptop to use the wireless connection / where would I find in my compouter system to set up security for it (password etc).

    Thanks.
I have a similar setup. You have to set your PC to have a static IP address - so the BeyonWiz can find it every time. Otherwise you have to enter the IP address of the PC in all the time on the BeyonWiz. I have mine set to 192.168.0.10, with my router at 192.168.0.1. Others have already mentioned how to find the IP address (using ipconfig command, etc).

Not sure what model Buffalo you have - but it appears that "root" is the most common administration account with blank password, with "root" or "admin" other less common passwords.

The wireless network for the laptop to connect comes from the wireless setup in the Buffalo wireless router. Once you connect to the routers administration logon with the correct userid and password - you should be able to set it up - following the Buffalo guide.

I suggest you download the right guide from here:
Support - Downloads | Buffalo Technology

Hint: try and use WPA or WPA2 with AES encryption and keep a record of your pre shared keys - so you can add more wireless devices in future, and stop your neighbours/passing traffic from using your internet connection.

PM me if you get stuck.
    Cheers,
    Rob

    Its a buffalo airstation.

Not sure what you mean by "pre shared keys".

How do i set it to a static IP ? Via the OPC or the router?

And yes I changed the password from the default - for security you know so secure even I can't remember.

Another question... if the router I have doesn;t give me the signal strength coverage iw ant (haven;t tried it in teh shed yet) what's a GOOD / strong router to get ?
