I havenever found filtering software which you could not get arround, over or through. I think the best advice given here is talk.

Any 14 year old who is told outright that "I can run a report and see every web site you visit just like that!" will self regulate his internet access.

However, if you do go down the filtering rout, then I would also look at blocking all anonymous proxies (If not already in the software) that you can find, allong with things like Expat Sheild (Which I use to watch BBC iPlayer from Australia) becasue that uses VPN technolgy to create an anonymous connectionto a UK server. In fact, you could look at disabling the built in VPN software on the computer, that would block many of the get arrounds.

for your punishment you can spend a week at my tech counter dealing with the naive parents that can't for the life of them believe their kids do what they do.

Get into your router and block the porn urls, only problem is you will have to reset every time you want to see the porn only joking.

it doesn't matter what you do the kids these days will work around it.
some times the kids are doing what we did when we were young, looking at rudie pics. But I would have to admit the stuff online is is more than XXX.
You just need to be viligant, check on them often then sneak and look at the history on the pc, kids often forget to clear the history, or forget to log off Facebook etc, so you can snoop to check if they are ok.
our school had a subscription charge for useage of the schools computers. The young 13 yr old hackers found out that if they USB'd Fire fox onto a USB stick they could by pass the schools usage counter as the computer was hooked up charge on IE. The computer admin put a stop to it when he found out. The kids now use some other method ???
Unfortunately in today's society parents are busy, and don't spend much time with their kids, so kids find entertainment in the internet games, facebook, etc etc. What has happened to the let's go out and throw a ball etc,.etc?

Cat Steven's wrote a song about it " Cat's in the cradle", I often reflect on that song and say to myself, yep that's me when i get older

No he didn't...it was Harry Chapin. You see yourself as Yusuf Islam when you're older??

Wait till your boy gets his school lap top and signs the "agreement" that it will be only used for school Kids these days have more workarounds than you can possibly imagine.

Just be honest and open with them.

    Try K9 from Blue Coat.

Its a well regarded security company and that is the program that I use.

It seems to work fairly well.
