    memory testing

I have been testing memory modules for the last 4 hours,,
which is not long (aparently) in the memory testing game,,

    however,
the inbuilt vista memory test program
shows a HARDWARE fault with all 4 2gb sticks in place,,
running single and double sticks in any config doesnt bring this fault.

the official windows memory test shows no faults with single sticks,

memtest86 V4(beta) shows 48 errors within the first 27% of first pass running 4 sticks.

the first run on a single has passed that point with no errors

please dont tell me to let it run for 10 passes or 8 hours,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have set the ram voltage to 2 as per the advertised amount.

I have run all tests using my old 4x1gb sticks with no errors

    motherboard is good to 8gb
    any ideas?

though I may just duck all this and play with my new GTX 560 ti SOC

In my experience most errors become apparent in minutes, only very infrequently do you need to run very long burn in tests.

Given you have tested all sticks individually, and in pairs, I would suggest a mainboard issue.
    Maybe upgrade your BIOS.
I would let the mobo decide which voltage to run also, instead of forcing.

    What RAM is it? (DDR2/3)

    +1 to the bios upgrade

There were several gigabyte chipsets that had a bios bug which would cause exactly what your talking about however they would be 2 or 3 year old boards now.

I would also suggest downloading a linux live cd that has a mem-test program on it. I believe alot of the ubuntu discs came with mem-test as one of the boot options

    Yeah exactly.
My last Gigabyte board had a bug which only affected you when running Kingston brand RAM of a particular model, guess which RAM I bought...

Ahha..surely they have solved this one! (this happened to me about 5 years ago now)

They release an updated BIOS which resolved this issue.
