    Web design ... your thoughts

    Hi all

I'm in the building industry and do Residential design

Well, my phone is slowing down and I think I need to change my method of getting my name out there

After a bit of talking to my regulars, has revealed that looking in the phone book is taking a back seat to interweb searches ... and this has got me having to really assess how I spend this years advertising budget

I took up the first suggestion via a friend and posted up 1 freebee on Hotfrog ... and in less than 3 hours later, the Indians were ringing me trying to flog me their complete package

I've seen some free Web design sites, but don't know if that's the way to go
.... and as there are thousands of names all trying to get on page 1 ... would like to know some tips on how to get it, and keep it there. After all, whats the use of having a site if it can't be found.

    I don't have a Domain name yet

Your experiences and thoughts would be appreciated

    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I own my business, and i thought about paying someone too make me a website, but i decided too learn how too do it myself.

    www.linnrover.com.au

is the latest one ive designed.

My oppion, get .com.au, not .net.au or .com. as the search comes up easily for aus if .com.au

I would focus on just getting a front page done, with all of your company info on it. and choose a website name that is your business. So when people search on google for you or what you do, or a residential design for your area you will come up.

I believe people go wrong by making initials for there website, or not putting enough info on there front page.

The yellow pages wanted us too pay for an advertisement last year, and i said what for, everyone uses google too find you ( i registered with google aswell) and they said yellowpages has an online website, and i said yeh but its hard too use, and people still just google you... so mmmm sorry if i babbled a bit

    No .... not babbling ...

I've got yellow pages hunting me down to sign up in the next month, and believe that their book is becoming old school and dying out ... I've got a pamphlet from them expressing how their now google resellers + bla bla bla, which gives me an indication that they also know the book is dying. I'm already on the yellow pages search engine and hold position 2 on page 1 ... but this still is not translating into calls

Did you buy the Web design software?

There is a hell of a lot to it. Getting up the search rankings takes either money or know how. Put Google Analytics scripts on your pages and it will tell you a goldmine of info about site visitors, where they live, how they found you, down to the screen resolution they are using and that is important for site design. Spend $1000 on a pro site of about 5 pages with all the above.
