it seems we are in the market for an in car charger for our toshiba satelite,,
I dont suppose there is a generic "one charger fits all laptops"??
I know future proofing is a dirty word in the PC industry,,,![]()

I have one of These and it does my HP Tablet, my Toughbook, and my Ipod speakers!
It has a selectable output voltage, and loads of adapters to fit most laptops.
You just need to be carefull that you set the voltage and polarity correctly, or you could cause damage.
It's dead efficient, as it doesn't even get warm when in use!

Dealextreme.
So, these will give me 19v now,,
and a different voltage in two years time when I change laptops?

Yup!
As I mentioned, it does both my lappies, and my Altec Ipod speakers:
19v, 16v, and 17v.
WAY better than an inverter, as modified square wave is nasty for lappy (switchmode) power supplies - it's actually a bit nasty for most things as far as efficiency(Ron, can you help me here?) is concerened(and here - must be the Friday night drinks!).
Great little bit of kit.
Cheers,
Fraser
Just make sure you buy one with a far greater specified amperage than the amperage requirement of the laptop.
I bought one from Repco with the same amp spec as the 240Volt charger.
Silly me .
Their amps must be smaller than NEC amps , as the thing blew up first use and damaged the power supply of the computer, which now still works at home but will not turn on reliably. Maybe 1 press , maybe 100.
I now use a pure sine wave inverter successfully through the standard Compaq charger ( that I had to buy in Alexandra Headland!to replace the NEC)

Powertech Plus MP-3472 from Jaycar,
does 15/16V @ 8.5A, 18/19V @8A, 20V @ 7.5A, 22V @ 6.5A, 24V @ 6A a whole bunch of different plug adaptors. IIRC ~$60 (but not real sure on the price)
