    iphone4 wi-fi

My wife and I have just renewed our mobile contracts and now have the iphone4 each.

Now, I love my Macs (2 desk tops, 2 lap tops, airport etc) and know my way around them fairly well, but can I get my iphone to 'see' my home wi-fi.....nope!!

My wife can 'see' the wi-fi network with her iphone and connect no problemo, but even when I'm sitting next to her I can't even 'see' anything.

    Anyone got any 'i'deas??

    Cheers

PS - Phones were bought on wednesday
PPS - Yeah, I know, I'll have to go back to phone shop.....but just interested to see if my iphone is an 'i'lemon, or if it's just me

Settings>Wi-Fi>ON>Choose Network and enter password - but I assume you've done that.

You haven't got a limit on DCHP addresses issued by your network or something similar have you?

Make sure personal hotspot is off too.

Thanks Dmdigital. Done the first one, no luck. There are no limits on the airport, but even if there were I should still be able to detect it?

What is personal hotspot? Is this on the iphone4?

Personal Hotspot is a way to access your phone's 3G internet with your computer.

    Nope, still got nothing.

Looks like I'll have to go back to the shop.....just as well I didn't have anything better to do.

OK. Got it connected by sitting next to the airport.

Comparing mine with my wife's, mine has a weak signal and hers is booming in even though they are next to each other.

Any ideas? I've compared both iphone settings and they seem the same....

Sounds like it might be faulty.

I use a Time Capsule for Wi-Fi and both our iPhone4's, MBP's, iMac and a few other things connect no problem even out doors.

Have you looked on the Apple support pages for anything?

I use the time capsule, too, so I'm surprised it's being a problem.

Been on the support pages for a while but haven't found anything yet.

Probably easier to take it back, although it'll be a drama trying to prove it's a problem.

    Have a good weekend

They will just test it against their own wifi instore. However, the telco shop you got it from may refer you back to the Apple Store. I'm with Optus and for all warranty you go directly to Apple.
They should help you test it at least.

    One other thng to try.

Note the MAC address of the iPhone, run airport utilities and in manual setup for your TC, go to advanced and then look at the logs and statistics > wireless clients. Both iPhones should have about the same signal values. In my case they are on par with everything else too.
