Yes but the method varies slightly with the make and model. You can use usb cable or bluetooth for the connection. You also need a data plan on the phone.
Is it possible to tether a mobile to a laptop and use the mobile as a means of connecting to the internet? Jim

wat phone do you have and what OS is it?
I do exactly as you desire with an old Panasonic Toughbook (CF-18) and a Nokia E51 via usb cable. I only use it for quick webmail access. Nokia software makes it easy.
Yes you can and its easy enough but you'd better check and understand your phone plan's data charges. I recently got charged $50 for a 14MB download to my laptop.
The phone is a HTC slide type around 3yr old and it runs windows mobile. Jim

yes you can no probs, from memory with HTC you just plug your USB cable into your laptop and your phone will offer you the choice of using the connection storage or shared intenet.
Choose internet, wait 5-10 seconds and away you go !
If if doesnt ask you automatically, go to Settings > connections > USB to PC
Tick the check box "Ask me first about connection"
Then try again, now it will ask you.
All done !
