Blocked fan, dislodged power lead inside the case. Or likely your power supply is going bad.
Hey fellas,
my windows 7 won't boot, it was working fine like 2 days ago and i haven't made any hardware or software changes.
so basically it posts all fine then when it hits the black "windows is starting up" screen with the glowing logo it just sits there for a few minutes then tries to boot again.
i'm trying to reformat now, but last attempt just turned off on me.
Cheers
Jordy

The basic question is, is it software or hardware.
I think before reformating I would be getting a copy of a linux distribution which boots from an optical drive (eg puppy linux). If that boots and remains running then I think you can conclude your Windows installation is at fault and proceed to reformat and reinstall.
On the other hand if Linux won't stay up without crashing then you know it is not Windows and so start looking at hardware.

My bet is that it is "blue screening"
When booting up tap the "F8" key repeatedly until you get a menu, choose "disable automatic restart on failure" or some such. (cant recall exactly)
This will show you the actual blue screen info instead of rebooting constantly.
As for the actual root cause..
Could be faulty RAM, failing hard drive, virus/malware infection, bad Windows update or many others.
Hardware is easy to rule out with some diagnostic tools.
