Old harddrives
Hi all,
Am running a notebook with windoze 7 on it and I want to view files on my old xp hardrives. At the moment both my desktop and old notebook motherboards have died but I know that the harddrives are ok.
Bought a Ritmo Multi Function HDD Docking station. When I put in one of the harddrives it doesnt seem to recognize it on windoze 7.
Can anyone point me in the right direction as to how I can view my old harddrives on windoze 7 or is it a case of buying another 'puter with xp on it?
Thanks
Cheers

All things being equal, Win7 will recognise XP drives. Does the drive have a jumper to select master/slave? If so, try removing it.

Sometimes you have to 'mount' the drives...
Click Start -> Right click Computer and select Manage.
Go to the tree about disks, I can't be much more specific at the moment, I'm at work where I don't have administrative rights so I can't open the manage dialog box.
What you are looking for is the drive you can't access and the property to use it.

it may be a silly question but is the Ritmo Hdd dock IDE or SATA and are the old XP drives IDE or SATA?

Could be that the docking station is faulty ?
I've come across ones that are.
That's why I've also got one of these USB 2.0 to Combo IDE+SATA Hard Drive Adapter | eBay as a backup. It's never failed me.
