    Raid HDD degraded

I am running am Intel Raid system based on 2 Seagate 500GB HDD.
One of the HDD, port 0 failed.
Can I replace the damaged HDD for a new one and create a Raid volume?
The new HDD have to be the same capacity and speed than the exsisting HDD?
The Raid software in use is an Intel Matrix Storage Console.
    I appreciate your inputs.
    Cheers
    Arthur

Arthur do you have an Intel SS4200E?

I just had a Seagate hdd fail in one.

Download the Seagate test tools bootable CD from their website, and check if the drive has failed and how. You can also check if it's still in warranty from serial number. Segate replaced my drive, had a new one to me in under a week.

If it was mirror raid, I'd turn off the box until you've got your data onto a second drive/disks, etc.

If you're running the Intel box - update firmware to latest version - only works through Internet Explorer - makes life a lot easier locating event logs and what went wrong.

My drives were mirrored -same data on two disks. When the new drive arrived I plugged it in and the machine copied the data over automatically.

Thank you for the info, yes it is a mirror Raid set up.
I will try what you just have suggested.

Things are not working for me
Seagate Tools do not recognize my HDD model ST3500320NS serial 5QMIW8FG
The Intel RAID system is CH*R/ICH9R/ICH10R SATA
    Console version 8.2.3.1001

I think that I have to send an email to seagate and also find out how much drama is to update the Intel software.
    Thanks again.

I cannot see if the driver stopped spinning, the software said that it is no accessible so I thing that is a mechanical fault and not about data corrupted.
Seagate Singapore are in company holiday so I cannot fin out if the ST3500320NS (enterprise series) is under warranty or if it is compatible with an NS series of the same size.
If I can find out the they are compatable then I will use my data HDD to replace the one in the RAID pair.

Thank you all for the inputs, the HDD was ok, corrosion in the cable terminals and mother board caused by sea salt in the enviroment caused the faliure.
After cleaning up the PC it is running.
It is 5 years old, the Seagate entrepise have warranty till 2013 so if play up again before the mother board spit the dumy then I will see what I can do.
