Thunderbird questions - help please !

    1. How do I make sure that when the program downloads the email messages that it LEAVES them on the optusmail server (eg doesnt delete them)

    2. When I set up email there wasnt any options for POP3 It simply set it up as IMAP/SMTP and whatever. Is this OK ?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

On SeaMonkey use 'Properties', 'Server Setting' then make sure you check 'Leave Messages on Server'

I know you are asking about Thunderbird but SeaMonkey is just FireFox and Thunderbird combined into a single package so it should be the same.

Don't know about the 2nd question.

IMAP always leaves the messages on the server. If you want POP3, then I think you have to cancel the automatic search that comes up with the account setup wizard. Once cancelled, the POP3 option is available as you have to set everything manually. POP3 uses port 110 usually. Ferret is correct about the checkbox.

mikehzz thats good info. Thank You. I'll see if it works as is.

There is no "leave messages on server" setting anywhere in server settings. This could well be explained by the fact its an IMAP set up !

As for seamonkey - what would be the benefit of having seamonkey rather than the two. Or vice versa ??

Probably no benefit - if you are used to two rather than one and it does what you want. I use it for the opposite reason, I'm used to the integrated suit, browser & mail plus other functions all in one pack. Been used to that pretty much since the days of Netscape. Only one update needed for several applications.
