Maybe I've missed something obvious (most likely) but I find the compass as available in Screen Designer to be useless in that the text is far too small to read and the green arrow in Designer doesn't appear when running Ozi.
Is there another way?

Found the problem. Ozi needs a file called hires.dat which allows it to work correctly on a VGA PDA.
