    Logitech Attack 3 Joystick

    Hi All,

My son rarely plays PC games as he has an Xbox. He does however have an old game (Mech Warriors 4) that he loves but stated that it would be better with a joystick.

I found him a pretty inexpensive one as part of his Xmas, made by Logitec. However, it won't work with the game, even though the game has joystick settings.

After hours of reading on the internet, it appears that this is a Logitec issue and you can overcome it by using Logitech Profiler.

Every time I try to find this download I end up at sites downloading Driver Detective and other stuff, all of which want me to register and in some cases pay for something. I just want my kid to be able to play the game.

Even though I use PCs everyday for work, I'm not very savy on the gaming and downloading this and that front. I also don't want to be forking out more money just to pay one game.

I have a return option at EB Games, so can return the joystick. Should I do this and buy another brand or is there an easy fix, another way around this?

    Ideas anybody?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

ahh yes, the microsoft version of the games thats completely crap to get working right on a windows pc.

great game but be warned, theres a fault (hopefully fixed now that the game is some 5 years old) that causes an error in one of the last missions that hangs the game every time. applying the fix means all of your gamesaves are invalid., great way of getting some extra play hours out of it.

    Thanks mate,

No I haven't tried this as the internet link on the instructions (even though it state's plug and play on the box....LOL) that came with the joystick, sent me on this Profiler path.

Not a single thread I read, stated a fix outside this profiler download and then a lot of switching stuff on and off and setting up etc. This is probably cool if you are a hardcore gamer and this approach sounds like it gives you a lot of versatility, but my son isn't and it seems a bit extreme for only one game.

I'll give your link a go, maybe Logitech have got a device specific download that makes it truely 'plug & play'.

    I'll let you know,

    Cheers.

    LOL....thanks Dave.

It's an old game that we've played heaps....well me a couple of times front to back and him, numerous times. We've never had that issue though. The beauty of PCs and those Microsoft Moments.....everybody gets a different one....hahaha.

Been waiting for MW5 but there have been all sorts of political issues aparently. I believe it's due next year (2012) and the teaser looks awesome.

have you tried MWLL oor any of the turn by turn knock offs of the original board game such as TOS or MegaMek?

Titans of steel (and elite, the original cga version) keptme sane in the solomans.

(I also suspect that I may be required to clean out the house and garage of pestilents and have a MW lan party...)

You may have to clear all the key bindings in the game setup first, then reset the commands to the joystick.

    Thanks,

I do remember reading something about 'key bindings'.....but unfortunately for me that just sounded like blah, blah, blah......sorry, refer to my "not very savy" comment .

I vaguely get what that means but have no idea how to do that or if I need this bloody Logitec download, to enable that process.....

Fortunately I have a mate in the IT game who has just offered to help.....isn't savy on joysticks either but is familiar with the Logitec profiling requirements. His assesment...."Logitec make pretty good kit and it would be a shame to have to take the JS back"....so, fingers crossed.

    I appreciate your help.

    Hey Dave,

Nope, never tried those games. I really enjoy playing PC/360 games but never find the time (specially lately) unless my son wants to play co-operative play on something.

I'll scope them out though. If I can get this JS working, I'd like to look at some air combat games....any recommendations?

Ah, the Solomans.....I was a FSGT at 38 when they deployed there, fortunately there were so many people trying to replicate the 'Dili Dash For Cash' (once it was obvious that there would be no shooting ), that we made it voluntary. Each to their own but I decided I had better things to do with my time..... I'm sure other units or services had no choice.

    Thanks for the input.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

IL-2 Sturmovik is a good air combat game - halfway between a game and a sim.

If you have any dramas with the joystick (or eve if you just want to try it) I have a joystick lying around that I don;t use. Next time I'm at the house I'll grab it.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".
