Hi,
I have a Toshiba.
The one thing which has put me off this is the warranty. I have a keyboard issue. I have taken it back to the shop I purchased it from....a 4 to 6 week turn around!!!!
Not impressed or a happy bunny!!
My Mac Book Pro bit the big one on the weekend.
Maybe it was its way of protesting me running windows on it. So after a moment to reflect on its good service I went off laptop shopping.
I start down the path of looking for an i7 based system but I ended up buying a Toshiba U840 ultrabook PSU4RA-00Q00C - Toshiba Satellite U840 Computer - Australia :: Computers, Laptops/Notebooks, Tablets, Televisions, DVD and Blu-Ray Players, Camcorders, Storage, Accessories, and more
Its only been a few days but so far so good. It certainly performs better than the old Mac Book and it seems well made.
It runs some heavy duty IT software that I use on a daily basis and it seems happy running Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom as well. It is not real fast on large files but its good enough.

Last time I had a problem with a Toshiba I booked it in via their online service. A courier picked it up it was away 2 weeks and delivered back by a courier at no expense to me.
Your mistake was using a middle man rather than the proper process.

It was in the manufactures warranty period. I took it back to the supplier They quoted 4-6 weeks as a std for Toshiba.
Computers Now used to have a great outlet in Moorabool St Geelong, with Mac tech support. Usually cost nothing for known clients and was on the spot or same day. They sold a truckload of Macs with this service. Sorry to see your Mac 'expired'.

When it comes to Laptops:
Sony
Toshiba
Asus
Samsung
thats all the ones that really need to be considered but i have been heard of only a couple lately with hard drive issues. Very good choice especially comming from a Mac
Taking to a third party will cause a delay. They have to raise the RA (return authority) and they may have a back log to do so it may sit there for a few days before it gets done.
If you register and use the Toshiba online service you raise the RA it will get picked up and delivered from your home or office. This way you avoid the third party delays. 4-6 weeks is a standard statement for most warranty turn arounds when you involve a third party.
